While planning our Northeast Wisconsin waterfall road trip, we struggled to find a campground close to the action.

There were limited Wisconsin State Park options, and the National forests were too far away.

Then we struck gold and found that Marinette County has an amazing county park system, and many parks have campgrounds.

We had no idea these beautiful county parks had camping options throughout the state.

Because these parks don’t often come up on Google searches, we decided to map all of the county parks with campgrounds in Wisconsin. This way, when planning a trip, we can consider which county parks may be a great camping option.

Favorite Wisconsin County campgrounds

If you are familiar with camping in Wisconsin State Parks, you know how difficult it can be to reserve a campsite during the summer months.

And that is where the Wisconsin County Campgrounds are your friend.

Big Eau Pleine County Park – Marathon County

Big Eau Pleine County Park, located near Wausau, is a quiet park with many lakeside campsites. It’s a rustic campground with a beach and even a disc golf course.

Morgan County Park – Marinette County

Marinette County’s parks are some of the best we’ve seen in Wisconsin. They are clean, and you can tell the County takes pride in its park system.

Morgan County Park is a beautiful park with a stunning beach. It is located near several other county parks in Marinette.

Marinette County is known as the waterfall capital of Wisconsin, and you could spend two days doing a waterfall tour.

Tips for Booking Campsites in Wisconsin County Parks

Verify Operating Dates of County Campgrounds

Over the years, we have found that Wisconsin County Park Campgrounds aren’t typically open until the weather is a bit warmer. We see campgrounds opening around May of each year and closing in October.

Unlike some state parks open for winter camping, many county park campgrounds are closed during our Midwest winters.
